As well as offering a traditional breakfast menu between 9am – 12.30 of porridge, teacakes, crumpets and our signature ‘Hog & Hen’ our speciality food which is served throughout the day includes the Traditional Afternoon Tea and Cream Teas. We also do a little ones Afternoon Tea for the under 12’s. Recently introduced is a Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea which is fast becoming a favourite with those who prefer to avoid tea and cakes and just stick with a good ole Yorkshire bottled beer – a choice of Yorkshire Blonde, Mary Jane or Leeds Best Bitter – together with a locally produced growler (pork pie), pickle, plain crisps (with a salt bag just like you got back in the day) and a selection of traditional filled finger sandwiches.
With the Afternoon Tea, served on a 3 tier china plate stand, there’s a choice of classic finger sandwiches – egg mayo & cress, hand carved locally sourced and cooked on the premises Yorkshire ham, cream cheese and cucumber and vintage mature cheddar. On the next tier up there’s a freshly baked-on-the-premises scone with strawberry jam, English butter and proper Cornish clotted cream. And finally to top it off there’s homemade matured fruitcake and a chunk of Wensleydale cheese. All this is served with unlimited amounts of Yorkshire tea.
Scones are baked fresh on the premises every morning and throughout the day as supplies run low! We do all kinds of unusual flavoured scones: Ginger & Apricot, Black Treacle and Date, Earl Grey and Lemon, Lime & Blueberry, Homemade Lemon Curd and White Chocolate, Strawberry and Black Pepper, Lavender, to name but a few.
We are now fully licensed therefore we can also offer a glass (or bottle!) of Proseccco, sherry, wine or locally brewed beer to accompany your Traditional Afternoon Tea.
Wednesday – Saturday 9am – 5pm (except on theatre production evenings we can open until 7pm subject to availability)
